Our work with our bees and our honey is and has always been motivated by a deep passion. In 2005, Viktoria Bassani, our founder, decided to leave a 15-year career in consulting to pursue her lifelong interest in bees and quality artisanal food.
We manage eight apiaries around our honey house on the south-west coast of Sweden, outside Malmö, redefining honey production in Sweden and sticking to our natural, bee-friendly and intuitive approach to beekeeping.
‘There was once a woman called Viktoria. Many years ago, she worked as a consultant in a large skyscraper in Malmö. Every day she sat behind a desk, staring into a computer while the sun shone outside. ‘One day’ she thought. ‘One day I will work in nature’. Gradually, the dream began to fade. Until one fateful day when she had a traumatic accident and her whole life changed forever. To heal, she sought out a warmer climate. She had heard of a magical island filled with wine and strange giant rabbits. She moved to Australia. Here she studied the art of wine and the sensory experience of food and drink. When she returned to Sweden, it was time for a change. ‘I quit my job! I'm going to be a beekeeper!’ She said to the relatively empty office floor and cleaning staff as she swung her coat behind her and walked out. At a time when there were no women-sized beekeeping suits in Sweden, Viktoria decided to break the norms and stubborn beekeepers' ideas about how she should approach beekeeping and honey. The Queen Bee was born. Fast forward 19 years later and Viktoria has just been certified as a CREA Honey Sensory Expert. The first honey sensory expert in Sweden. At the same time, she was elected Vice President of the 49th Apimondia International Beekeeping Conference in Scandinavia and presented her new brand to the world: AMBER Honey’
